I am a child.
I come to you, a teacher.
I bring a whisper.
Can you hear the poem in it?I am a child.
I come to you, a teacher.
Will you tell me what to think,
Or show me how?
Will you teach me answers,
Or the symmetry of a question well composed?I am a child.
I come to you, a teacher.
Will learning be only about doing things right,
Or about doing the right thing?
A thing of joy,
Or of duty?I am a child.
I come to you, a teacher.
Which will matter most to you,
My soul,
Or my grade?I am a child.
I come to you, a teacher.
Can you teach me to chart my journey,
Or must you use a standard measure
To place me always
In the shadow of others?I am a child.
I come to you, a teacher.
Will I go away from you ascending my strengths,
Or hobbled by my weaknesses?I am a child.
I come to you, a teacher.
I bring you all I am,
All I can become.
Do you understand the trust?

"Ish"
Today we leaned the significance of the word "ish." We say things like, "We're having dinner at 6:00-ish." "We're going to have seminar at 2:30-Ish," and (in case you were wondering) ish isn't really right on time. However, this is just one more part of the culture we are experiencing!
Today was a pretty low-key day. We did venture to Benny's (a local store) to purchase some necessities, and we also made shower/bathroom curtains out of our finds! We feel like we've upgraded to a four-star resort here in the girls' dorm!
We also got to meet a lot of the teachers today. Most of us now have a face to put to the cooperating teacher we will be learning from and teaching alongside, so that eased a lot of nerves!
We had an incredible dinner tonight! We are fresh barbecue chicken, baked beans, potato salad, fresh fruit, chocolate covered bananas and the most delicious fruit cake ever! We also enjoyed "fry-jacks" for breakfast this morning. We definitely aren't going hungry here!!
We are all very excited to be able to start in the classrooms tomorrow. Please be praying for us, our cooperating teachers and our students! We're excited to see what they and God have in store for us!!
"Trust in The Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. Seek His will in all that you do, and He will direct your path." Proverbs 3:5-6
